Housing benefit reform: Housing Benefit Plus (Wohngeld-Plus) for two million households

With the German Housing Benefit Plus Act, a higher Housing Benefit will also be paid out in 2024. Since the new law came into force at the beginning of 2023, two million low-income households will be eligible for a state subsidy toward their housing costs. This will triple the number of households entitled to receive housing benefits. In addition, the new "Housing Benefit Plus" will be considerably higher – on average, twice the current subsidy amount. The federal and state governments will each cover half the costs.
